Živa Ploj Prešuh

is a conductor with broad symphonic and diverse opera repertoire. She is a regular guest in Slovene National Theater Opera Ljubljana, where she has firstly appeared by conducting Strauss’ Salome. She has then led the new ballet production HeartMeat, by recently awarded choreographers Rosana Hribar and Gregor Luštek. She was again invited to lead new ballet Cacti by Alexander Ekman and continued with Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Verdi’s Otello. She conducted Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and contemporary ballet Symphony of sorrowful songs with music by Gorecki as homage to late theatre director Tomaž Pandur. In the season 2017/2018, she also led new Jeroen Verbruggen’s ballet Orphic Hymn (with music by Stravinsky: Orpheus, Bach/Saito: Chaconne, Webern: Fuga Ricercata) and premiered both Philip Glass’ opera La Belle et la bête and Mozart’s Don Giovanni. She has also led Macbeth in the previous seasons. She conducted Swan Lake in Teatro Verdi in Trieste with great acclaim and has stepped in for the ballet Dr Zhivago with Brno Philharmonic.

She regularly conducts the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, both Symphony Orchestras of the Slovene National Theatre in Maribor and Ljubljana and the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra. She established the Ljubljana International Orchestra in 2010. The orchestra has members from all over the world and has toured in Italy, Serbia, Great Britain and Spain.

Slovenian and Italian president has awarded her recent programme to commemorate 100 years of ending the WW1 presented with Ljubljana International Orchestra at Ljubljana Festival and Mittelfest Cividale del Friuli in July 2018.

Internationally, she has conducted in Germany, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Croatia, Bosna and Hercegovina, Egypt.

She also believes in the importance of passing on the knowledge and skills in the arts, especially classical music of all periods and genres and gathering world most versatile and renowned musicians around her in Ljubljana. She is the founder and artistic director of the Ljubljana International Orchestra, Academy BSA and the platform European Career Center for Artists Triple Bridge. She has been working with world acclaimed soloists and with many foreign institutions that have become partners with the Academy: Accademia Nazionale Santa Cecilia of Rome, National Orchestras of Lille, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Belgrade and Sarajevo Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Festival Ljubljana and others.

Before the end of her studies, she has established her own Symphony and Chamber Orchestra Festine, which connected professional musicians with students to compass their experience of the professional level and to provide them with guidance in playing the contemporary music. She has put much effort into the education of children and youth with the Family Cycle Festinice. She led the String Chamber Orchestra of the Ljubljana Academy of Music, and she was also conductor of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music.

In the field of contemporary dance, she has been working closely with the EnKnapGroup and the choreographer Iztok Kovač. She has been interested in music by contemporary Slovene composers Lojze Lebič and Janez Matičič whose works she regularly conducts.
